JCPenney Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This October, customers and associates can join JCPenney in our fight against breast cancer as we team up with the American Cancer Society, the nation’s largest nonprofit investor in cancer research. Since 1946, the organization has invested more than $4.3 billion in breast cancer research.

To kick off this important month, Home Office associates impacted by breast cancer took part in a survivor event on Sept. 20, which included a photoshoot to showcase their beauty in strength and power in courage. Survivors were pampered with beauty and hair touch-ups, free breast cancer awareness tees, sweet treats, lunch and a swag bag.

Making a Difference Through our Merchandise

Now through Oct. 31, select JCPenney merchandise will benefit the American Cancer Society in support of its breast cancer research and awareness programs. We have partnered with Grammy award-winning country singer Trisha Yearwood to carry her new album, Every Girl in 500 of our stores. For each CD sold at JCPenney, $2 will benefit the American Cancer Society – a cause that is near and dear to Yearwood’s heart.

Additionally, JCPenney will continue our multi-year tradition, carrying City Streets® breast cancer supportive tees, with $2 from each shirt sold also being contributed to the American Cancer Society. The tees and CDs will be spotlighted within the women’s department in a special “Beauty in Courage, Power in Strength” Breast Cancer Awareness Month display.

Support from JCPenney Salon

Throughout the month of October, JCPenney salon customers will have the opportunity to make a donation at checkout to the American Cancer Society and enter into a raffle for a chance to win a gift basket filled with product from JCPenney Salon, Sephora inside JCPenney and JCPenney. There will be a raffle winner at each of our more than 750 salon locations nationwide.

On Oct. 19 and 20, JCPenney salons will host a “Sales for Hope” event, donating 10 percent of retail sales up to $50,000 to the American Cancer Society. Salon stylists will also visit American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® communities across the country to pamper patients undergoing cancer treatment away from home.

Brave Beauty Events

In partnership with the American Cancer Society and Hanes, select JCPenney salon and Sephora inside JCPenney locations will host “Brave Beauty” events throughout October. Breast cancer survivors invited by the American Cancer Society will learn soothing skincare routines, beauty tips to help with the appearance of brows and lashes, scarf and wig styling and how to manage hair regrowth during and after treatment. In select markets, attendees will also receive a custom bra consultation from Hanes.

Virtually Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

JCPenney associates are encouraged to participate in their local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® walk, with over 180 walks taking place across the country throughout the month of October. New this year, JCPenney associates and store teams will be able to participate in JCPenney virtual walks if they are unable to attend a walk in their community. This allows every associate to be a part of the movement and raise money for the cause, whether walking alone or with a team, at home or at work.

Thanks to the efforts of organizations such as the American Cancer Society, funding for cancer research, improved screening methods for early detection and better treatment options are saving the lives of countless women with breast cancer today. We invite every shopper to join us in our commitment to this important cause!
