McAllen Store Reopens with a Texas-Sized Celebration of Giveaways and Giving Back

McAllen, it’s time! Just over one year after Category 1 Hurricane Hanna touched down, Store 0226 at La Plaza Mall in McAllen, Texas, has reopened. The Store welcomed nearly 800 loyal customers to its Texas-sized celebration on Friday, Sept. 3, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony, JCPenney gift cards for the first 100 customers, in-store giveaways, entertainment, and a meaningful donation to the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen.

A Warm Welcome

The festivities kicked off with special guest speakers, including local dignitary Joaquin Zamora, Mayor Pro Tem, District 2 Commissioner, who gave JCPenney a warm welcome back to the community.

Plus, our very own Otis Buchanan, regional vice president, West region, and Enriqueta Calvillo, general manager, Store 0226, thanked associates for their dedication and commitment to bringing the store to life over the past year.

“JCPenney has served the McAllen community for more than 45 years,” said Buchanan. “With this grand reopening, we look forward to building on this history as we welcome back our loyal customers. A cornerstone of that commitment is to give back to our community.”

A Meaningful Contribution to the Community

To support our loyal McAllen customers and the community that also experienced hardship due to Hurricane Hanna, the JCPenney Communities Foundation donated $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Club of McAllen.

“The Boys & Girls Club of McAllen appreciates the generosity of JCPenney Communities Foundation and are thankful for their investment in our community,” said Dalinda Gonzalez-Alcantar, chief executive officer, Boys & Girls Club of McAllen, who accepted the check. “The grant funds received will be used to help provide a safe after-school learning environment for children in our McAllen community.“

Knowing firsthand how difficult it is to rebuild after a hurricane, JCPenney surprised three Boys & Girls Club of McAllen families with gift cards to shop for back-to-school essentials and other needs.

After being rebuilt from the ground up, the hundreds of customers and guests in attendance were eager to get into the new store, which has high-efficiency lighting, updated signage and graphics, and much more, for a brand-new shopping experience. They were also greeted with new, compelling merchandise from all JCPenney’s most loved brands.

Thank you to all special guests and customers who attended the grand reopening event. If you’re in the McAllen area, be sure to visit the newly rebuilt JCPenney Store at La Plaza Mall!
