JCPenney is proud to be one of Unifi’s 2020 REPREVE® Champions of Sustainability this year, marking the fourth consecutive year we have received this honor since the award’s inception in 2018.
REPREVE, made by Unifi, is the leading and most trusted branded performance fiber made from recycled materials used in clothing, shoes, home goods, and other products from some of the world’s top brands. In 2020, JCPenney recycled the equivalent of more than 18 million bottles through the use of REPREVE, a 28 percent increase over the previous year, making us one of 40 brand and retail partners to receive the award.
Manufacturing Sustainable Products
In 2017, JCPenney introduced eco-friendly denim into our private brand Arizona Jean Co®. Customers can choose from various styles of sustainable jeans and t-shirts made with 20 percent REPREVE polyester created from recycled plastic bottles.
In addition to Arizona, we have incorporated eco-friendly materials into products within our private brands including a.n.a®, St. John’s Bay® for women, and Xersion® for boys and girls. Products made with these types of sustainable fibers help conserve energy and natural resources without compromising style, comfort, and value.
New Partnership with Textile Exchange
JCPenney is also proud to announce a new membership with Textile Exchange, a global nonprofit focused on minimizing the textile industry’s harmful impacts and maximizing its positive effects. For years, Textile Exchange has been a valuable resource to JCPenney, offering guidance in defining our sustainable fiber certification program. This membership solidifies our alliance with Textile Exchange and keeps us on track to manufacture even more sustainable products for our customers.
