A Message from CEO Jill Soltau about Store Reopenings and Safety

Dear Valued Customer,

First and foremost, we hope you and your family are healthy and safe. Our relationship with you is essential to JCPenney, which has been at the heart of America’s communities for more than 100 years. We want to thank you for your loyalty and patience as we all confront and adjust to today’s challenges together.

We’re happy to share with you that we are gradually reopening our doors in a phased approach that is based on the latest guidance and state and local orders. Check here to see if a store near you is open. We’ll be sure to update this link regularly.

As we look forward to welcoming you back to our stores, we want you to know about the changes we’ve made in response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Your safety and the safety of our associates is our top priority, and we are committed to providing a healthy shopping environment. That’s why we have closely monitored health department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to inform our practices.

As we open our stores, you will be greeted by our valued associates who have been trained on an extensive reopening protocol. Expect to see Plexiglass shields at each register in use, associates wearing face coverings, social-distancing procedures with reminders throughout the store, and hand sanitizer available for customer and associate use.

We have adjusted store hours and we are doing diligent cleaning throughout the day, paying extra attention to frequently touched surfaces. There will also be limited numbers of customers in stores – based on state and local mandates.

If you prefer contactless checkout, you can make your purchase in store via our app – using a mobile wallet payment – and you will receive your receipt by email.

All reopened stores now feature JCPenney Contact-free curbside pickup. To use this service, shop at jcp.com and select free “Same Day Pick Up.” We’ll notify you when your order is ready. Then just pull up to a reserved parking spot, call, and one of our associates – wearing personal protective equipment – will place your order in your car.

You can also continue to shop at our flagship store, jcp.com, and through our app, which features an enhanced experience. We’re now offering free shipping on orders of $49 or more. We have extended our flexible return policy for an additional 30 days – once your JCPenney store reopens – and the window to use rewards by 60 days. In addition, you can send returns for online purchases via mail following the instructions listed on our website.

During this important time, we are also supporting communities. JCPenney is based in Texas, and we are donating 100,000 face masks and 500,000 shopping bags to help those feeding children through area schools. Students and their families are receiving much-needed food assistance, and we are helping protect those who are preparing their meals and supplying bags to distribute them. Our own merchandising team sourced the masks, and they’re the same high-quality masks we’ve given associates to wear in stores as we begin to reopen.

Additionally, JCPenney has partnered with the nonprofit Give Back Box, a free program which benefits your area by collecting gently used items including clothing, shoes, toys, and jewelry. It’s something you can do from home by putting items in a box from your latest JCPenney purchase or any other box. Shipping is simple and free, and your items will be sold to support community programs focused on job training and education. The box is guaranteed to be recycled, ensuring your donation benefits your neighbors and the planet.

Please know how honored we are to be part of your community and that you choose to shop JCPenney. In these difficult times, we look forward to welcoming you back and once again offering you quality merchandise at a value as our stores begin to reopen across America.

Sincerely,

Jill Soltau
