JCPenney Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

JCPenney associates who are breast cancer survivors, or have an immediate family member who is a survivor, participated in an exclusive photo shoot in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Survivors were pampered with beauty and hair touch-ups, free breast cancer awareness tees, sweet treats and a swag bag.

This October, customers and associates can join us in our support in the fight to save lives from breast cancer by teaming up with American Cancer Society, the nation’s largest nonprofit investor in cancer research. The organization currently invests $60.2 million in breast cancer research, funding 155 multiyear grants focused on breast cancer prevention, screening and treatment.

From now through Oct. 31, $2 from every sale of our women’s City Streets® breast cancer awareness tees will be contributed to the American Cancer Society in support of the organization’s breast cancer research and awareness programs. These tees will be spotlighted within the women’s department in a special “Beauty in Courage, Power in Strength” Breast Cancer Awareness Month display. JCPenney also carries a variety of breast cancer awareness merchandise from fashion jewelry to athletic footwear that enables customers to show their support for the cause.

Throughout the month of October, JCPenney salon customers can make a donation at checkout to the American Cancer Society and also enter into a raffle for a chance to win a gift basket. The prize package features a FHI Heat® hair dryer, UNbrush detangle paddle brush, pink flip flops, Sephora inside JCPenney canvas tote bag and a City Streets breast cancer awareness tee. There will be a raffle winner at each of our more than 750 salon locations nationwide.

JCPenney associates who are breast cancer survivors, or have an immediate family member who is a survivor, participated in an exclusive photo shoot in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

JCPenney salons will also host a “Sales for Hope” event, donating 20 percent of their retail sales from Oct. 20-21 to the American Cancer Society, up to $50,000. Salon stylists will also visit American Cancer Society Hope Lodge® communities across the country to pamper patients undergoing cancer treatment away from home.

Additionally, on Oct. 21, JCPenney salon and Sephora inside JCPenney associates will host “Brave Beauty” classes in select markets. Breast cancer survivors invited by the American Cancer Society will learn soothing skincare routines, beauty tips to help with the appearance of brows and lashes, scarf and wig styling and how to manage hair regrowth during and after treatment.

JCPenney associates are also encouraged to participate in their local American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® walk, with over 180 walks taking place across the country throughout the month of October. The JCPenney Home Office will be fundraising and forming a team to walk in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk taking place in Dallas on Oct. 20. Since 1993, the walks have raised more than $870 million and awareness to help save lives from breast cancer.

Thanks to the efforts of organizations such as the American Cancer Society funding for cancer research, improved screening methods for early detection, as well as better treatment options are helping countless women survive breast cancer today. We invite every shopper to join us in our commitment to this important cause!
