2021 Leader Grant Program
At JCPenney, we recognize the existence of significant gaps in opportunity that persist for some youth who are the most at risk of not graduating high school or getting the formal training they need to secure a good-paying job. Defined as ‘The Opportunity Gap’, it identifies the ways in which race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, familial situations, or other factors serve as obstacles to success.
Through our Leader Grant program, we invited every store to provide a grant to an outstanding nonprofit organization that is actively working to close the opportunity gap in their local community. Leader Grants are supported by our Round Up program, which encourages customers to join us in giving back by rounding up their purchase to the nearest dollar to support the JCPenney Communities Foundation.
During the 2021 back-to-school season, the JCPenney Communities Foundation committed to donating more than $1.4M to local store communities. Click on the map below to see this year’s list of Leader Grant recipients by state.*
